A National Education Service

A lecture from Kevin Courtney, joint General Secretary of the National Education Union (NEU)

Kevin Courtney speaks on the current state of the UK's education system and plans for its transformation "The National Education Service plans must give clarity, confidence and hope. We need a new education programme, urgently.  We need it to give a sense of focus and hope to all those across the world of education who are struggling with the effects of a system that is not merely incapable of responding to a deepening social crisis, but is actually making that crisis worse."

Kevin Courtney was elected as General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers on 15 July 2016.  Prior to that, Kevin was elected as Deputy General Secretary on 28 January 2010. He has been active in the Union for the past 30 years, first as a school rep and then as the NUT Secretary for Camden. He was elected onto the National Executive for Inner London in 2006.

On 1st September 2017 the NUT amalgamated with the ATL to become the NEU – the National Education Union.  Kevin is now Joint General Secretary of the NEU along with Dr Mary Bousted.
